City of Corona Endorses #ReasonableRanks Campaign to Reform Military Discharge Policy

Corona, CA — In a powerful show of local leadership, the City of Corona has officially endorsed the #ReasonableRanks campaign—a national veteran-led movement to reform outdated military discharge policies that leave injured service members behind.

On June 10, 2025, Mayor Jim Steiner and the Corona City Council issued a formal Letter of Support for the campaign, led by Kirk Carlson, USMC veteran and founder of the nonprofit Covenant of Courage. The #ReasonableRanks campaign seeks to create a career reassignment pathway for non-deployable service members who are currently forced out of the military despite their injuries occurring in service.

“The #ReasonableRanks campaign isn’t just about policy reform — it’s about restoring dignity,” wrote Mayor Steiner. “Corona is proud to be home to many veterans and military families. We understand that service comes in many forms, and we believe military policy should reflect that truth.”

Each year, thousands of service members are discharged after sustaining injuries, often without recognition, support, or the chance to continue serving in alternative roles such as training, administration, or cyber defense. The campaign advocates for these injured troops to be offered reassignment options instead of involuntary discharge.

Covenant of Courage launched the #ReasonableRanks campaign earlier this year and has since gained over 180 signatures on its petition, testimony from veterans across the country, and increasing bipartisan support from elected officials.

“This endorsement from the City of Corona is a game-changer,” said Kirk Carlson. “It sends a clear message to Washington: communities across America believe in standing up for our injured service members.”

The campaign continues to grow and calls on state and federal lawmakers to formally recognize the issue and adopt reforms that align military policy with modern disability standards.
