The Eaton Fire, which ignited on January 7, 2025, near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive in the Altadena/Pasadena area, has significantly impacted Los Angeles County. As of January 18, 2025, the fire has burned approximately 14,117 acres and is 73% contained.
Impact and Damage Assessment
The fire has led to the destruction of 8,988 structures and damaged an additional 972. Tragically, there have been 17 confirmed fatalities, with 24 individuals still reported missing. Firefighting Efforts and Resources
A coordinated response involving the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Pasadena Fire Department, and the United States Forest Service has been instrumental in combating the blaze. As of January 13, 2025, over 3,400 personnel were assigned to the incident, supported by 16 helicopters, 375 engines, 29 bulldozers, 50 crews, and 90 water tenders. Firefighters have established approximately 60 miles of control lines around the fire’s perimeter, including 8 miles of hand lines.
