🚨 How the #ReasonableRanks Initiative is Changing the Military Discharge Process
By Kirk Carlson | USMC Veteran | Founder, Covenant of Courage
Every year, thousands of service members are discharged—not for misconduct, but for becoming non-deployable due to injuries or illness. These are individuals who trained hard, served proudly, and got hurt in the line of duty. But instead of reassignment, they’re pushed out with little recognition and no option to continue serving.
💔 They were injured—not insubordinate.
The current system treats deployability as the only measure of a service member’s worth. But the truth is, many injured troops could continue to serve with distinction in vital roles like:
Cyber defense
Recruiting
Training commands
Base support
That’s what the #ReasonableRanks campaign is all about:
✅ Giving injured troops the option to be reassigned, not discharged
✅ Fighting for full VA benefits, even if injuries weren’t combat-related
✅ Restoring dignity, purpose, and visibility to those discharged too soon
✅ Urging the DoD and Congress to make medical discharge a last resort
🔥 With 176 petition signatures and growing, this movement is gaining serious momentum. Veterans, lawmakers, colleges, and communities are stepping up. Now we need YOUR voice too.
