Pasadena and La Cañada Schools Close Due to Emergency: Support Services Announced


In response to ongoing challenges affecting the community, Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) schools will remain closed from January 13 to January 17, 2025, according to the district’s official website. La Cañada Unified School District (LCUSD) has also announced closures for Monday, January 13, 2025.


To support families during this time, several organizations are stepping in to provide care and meals for those impacted by mandatory evacuations, fire-related damages, or displacement.


LA County Parks: Free Care Camps for Youth


The Los Angeles County Parks department is establishing four Care Camps for youth aged 5 to 17 at the following locations:

Pamela Park

Arcadia Park

LA County Arboretum

Crescenta Valley Park


These camps will operate from January 13 to January 31 and are specifically for children and teens who are under mandatory evacuation or significantly affected by the fires.


Details of Care Camps:

Youth Camps (Ages 5-12): 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Teen Camps (Ages 13-17): 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• Meals will be provided daily:

• Breakfast, snacks, and lunch for all participants.

• Teens will also receive supper.

YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles: Free Childcare for Families in Need


The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is offering free childcare to children of first responders, essential workers, and families who have been displaced or evacuated, or who have suffered significant loss. This program is available at all YMCA locations.


Program Details:

• Children must be at least 4 years and 9 months old and in grades TK-8th.

• Space is limited, and families are encouraged to contact afterschool@ymcaLA.org to learn more or sign up.


PUSD Grab-and-Go Meal Service


PUSD is providing grab-and-go meals for all children, regardless of whether they attend public, charter, or private schools. Each child will receive two meals (breakfast and lunch) daily. The service is available from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday through Friday, at the following locations:

1. McKinley School

325 S. Oak Knoll Ave., Pasadena, CA 91101

2. Madison Elementary

515 Ashtabula St., Pasadena, CA 91104

3. Field Elementary

3600 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91107


The only requirement is that a child must be present in the vehicle during pick-up.
