#ReasonableRanks Campaign Update – 145 Signatures and Growing!

By Kirk Carlson | USMC Veteran | Founder, Covenant of Courage

📅 May 29, 2025

The #ReasonableRanks campaign has officially reached 145 petition signatures—and that number continues to grow by the day. Every single signature represents a voice calling for justice, reform, and dignity for America’s injured veterans who were discharged without the option of career reassignment.

We launched this movement to shine a light on a painful truth: too many service members are honorably discharged during training due to injury or illness, yet left without benefits, recognition, or the opportunity to serve in alternate roles. These are veterans who took the oath, showed up, and were ready to serve—but never given a fair chance.

This week’s signature milestone is a testament to the growing momentum of this campaign—and to all of you who are standing with us.

✅ What We’ve Accomplished So Far

  • Public Support: We’ve reached 145+ signatures on our petition – Sign Here

  • Community Engagement: Our team has hosted tabling events, spoken at local gatherings, and distributed flyers across Southern California.

  • Media Outreach: Press inquiries are coming in from national journalists like Patty Nieberg, and we’ve submitted campaign stories to Task & Purpose and other media outlets.

  • Legal and Ethical Compliance: All public references to individuals who withdrew consent have been removed; we’ve issued an official Incident Report and signed a Consent Withdrawal Agreement.

  • City Partnerships: The City of Corona will vote on a resolution of support on June 6—potentially becoming the first city to officially endorse the campaign.

  • Strategic Collaborations: We have a meeting scheduled with the Janet Goeske Foundation on June 9 to explore wellness initiatives for injured and senior veterans.

🔜 What’s Next

  • Signature Sprint: This week begins our Signature Sprint Challenge—a push to reach 200 signatures by the end of next week. Help us by sharing the petition link with your friends, family, and networks.

  • City Council Speech: Kirk Carlson will present a 2-minute speech to the Corona City Council on June 6 urging adoption of the resolution.

  • New Outreach Materials: Updated flyers, one-pagers, and digital images will be released daily to keep the campaign visible and energize supporters.

  • Veteran Voices Project: We’re collecting testimonials from injured veterans to amplify their stories and highlight why #ReasonableRanks reform is necessary.

🫡 Why This Matters

The current military discharge system lacks a consistent and compassionate pathway for injured service members. #ReasonableRanks is pushing for:

  • Career reassignment options for those injured in training

  • Retention of benefits, such as healthcare and retirement eligibility

  • Public recognition for the service and sacrifice of these veterans

Together, we can fix this. Together, we can show that every veteran counts.
