Why Signing This Petition Could Change Military Policy

Every signature counts—and sometimes, it can even rewrite the rules.

For thousands of service members who were injured before ever stepping foot on a battlefield, the current military discharge system offers no second chance. Instead of being reassigned, retrained, or supported, these men and women are routinely pushed out—quietly and honorably discharged without the dignity, benefits, or recognition they’ve earned. It’s not just unfair. It’s a systemic failure that wastes talent, erodes morale, and costs taxpayers millions.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

The Problem: Injured But Willing

Currently, U.S. military policy allows for the discharge of personnel deemed “non-deployable” for more than 12 consecutive months. This policy makes little distinction between service members injured in training and those who may be reassigned to fulfill vital support roles. As a result, those hurt while preparing to serve are often discarded—despite their skill, dedication, and continued willingness to serve in alternative capacities.

This affects not only the lives and careers of injured troops, but also the readiness of our armed forces and the future of military leadership pipelines.

The Solution: Reasonable Ranks

The #ReasonableRanks petition calls for a practical, bipartisan policy solution: career reassignment instead of discharge for non-deployable service members who are still able and willing to serve in non-combat or modified roles.

The key reforms we’re asking for include:

  • Reasonable accommodation and reassignment options for injured troops

  • Guaranteed VA benefits for service-connected injuries sustained during training

  • Dignified recognition for service members who never deployed but upheld their oath

  • A legal reassessment of disability policies under existing federal disability rights law

Why Your Signature Matters

Petitions don’t just raise awareness—they shape policy agendas. By signing, you amplify the voices of veterans who have been left behind and send a clear message to lawmakers: this issue matters to the American people.

  • Legislators track petitions and constituent advocacy.

  • Media outlets amplify movements that show momentum.

  • Policy reform starts with public pressure.

Real People. Real Impact.

Behind every signature is a real story—a Marine who shattered his spine in boot camp, a soldier who lost hearing during training, a recruit with PTSD who never got a second chance. These stories are often invisible to the public and ignored by bureaucracy.

Signing the petition brings visibility, dignity, and hope to those who gave everything and got nothing in return.
