How Covenant of Courage Protects the Rights of Disabled Students

How Covenant of Courage Protects the Rights of Disabled Students

At Covenant of Courage, we believe that every student — regardless of disability — deserves a fair, accessible, and empowering education.

Yet across the country, disabled students face barriers that deny them the opportunities they are legally entitled to. Whether it’s schools ignoring accommodations, wrongly accusing students of misconduct, or failing to meet their obligations under federal law, disabled students are often left without the support they need to succeed.

Covenant of Courage exists to change that.

Defending Students Against Discrimination and Unfair Treatment

Disabled students are protected under key civil rights laws like the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These laws require schools to provide accommodations, prevent discrimination, and ensure equal access to education.

But too often, those laws are ignored.

Covenant of Courage steps in to hold schools accountable. We work alongside students and families to identify violations, document discrimination, and demand the fair treatment the law guarantees. From wrongful discipline to denial of services, we empower students to assert their rights and take action.

Supporting Students Accused of Academic Misconduct

As technology evolves, disabled students are facing new forms of bias. AI detection tools and academic integrity software often falsely flag students with disabilities, particularly those who rely on writing supports or alternative learning strategies.

At Covenant of Courage, we recognize these dangers.

When disabled students are wrongly accused of cheating, we help them prepare defenses, challenge unreliable evidence, and bring their disability needs into the conversation. No student should be punished because of their disability, and no student should be forced to fight alone.

Empowering Families Through Knowledge and Advocacy

Navigating the education system can feel overwhelming, especially when schools resist honoring a student’s needs. Covenant of Courage equips families with the tools, templates, and strategies they need to advocate effectively.

Our services include:

  • Step-by-step guides for securing 504 Plans and IEPs

  • Letter templates for requesting accommodations or filing complaints

  • Preparation support for academic hearings and meetings

  • Educational workshops on disability rights and school obligations

When families are armed with information and support, they can demand — and win — the educational access their children deserve.

Changing the System for Good

Covenant of Courage is more than a resource. We are a movement.

We are building a community of students, parents, and advocates who believe in the power of standing up, speaking out, and changing the future for disabled students everywhere.

Through direct support, education, and systemic advocacy, Covenant of Courage is lighting a path toward a world where disability is not a barrier to opportunity, but a powerful part of a student’s journey to success.

Because courage is not the absence of fear — it is the decision to fight for what is right, no matter the obstacles.

And at Covenant of Courage, that fight is just beginning.
