Let Injured Veterans Serve with Honor – Join the #ReasonableRanks Campaign
Too many service members are being forced out of the military—not because they can’t serve, but because no one gave them the chance to serve differently.
I’m Kirk Carlson, founder of Covenant of Courage and a proud USMC veteran. After sustaining an injury in the line of duty, I was reassigned to dispatcher duty while on light duty. I performed the role successfully and was ready to continue in that capacity. But instead of being offered a permanent non-combat reassignment or career transition, I was medically discharged. No retirement. No transition support. No options.
And I’m not alone.
Across the country, thousands of injured veterans are being prematurely discharged without consideration for reasonable accommodations, non-combat roles, or administrative reassignment. Their careers are ended not by their wounds—but by a rigid system that sees disability as disqualification.
That’s why we’re launching the #ReasonableRanks Campaign.
What We’re Fighting For:
A Career Continuation Waiver Program to let injured troops continue serving in support roles
A retroactive review of wrongful discharges dating back to 2001
Full coordination between the DoD and VA to protect veteran careers, benefits, and futures
We’ve submitted letters to the DoD Inspector General, Congress, VA OIG, Equal Opportunity Office, and the Military Whistleblower Hotline. But we need public support to make real change happen.

This is not just about my story. It’s about justice—for all who served and still want to serve.
Together, we can restore honor, purpose, and fairness for our injured veterans.
