#ReasonableRanks Campaign

Justice, Dignity, and Opportunity for Injured Veterans

The Problem

Each year, thousands of U.S. service members are honorably discharged during basic training or early service due to injuries or illness—often without the opportunity to recover, receive reassignment, or continue their service in another capacity.

Many of these veterans are separated before deployment, yet their commitment and sacrifice are real. Too often, they are left without clear recognition, access to career pathways, or adequate support systems.

We believe this issue deserves greater national awareness, respectful dialogue, and long-term solutions that honor the full spectrum of service.

Our Mission

#ReasonableRanks is a national public awareness campaign led by Covenant of Courage. We educate the public about the overlooked experiences of U.S. service members who are medically discharged during training due to injury or illness.

Our focus includes:

  • Raising awareness about the limited reassignment opportunities for injured service members

  • Promoting dialogue around access to benefits and transitional support

  • Encouraging public recognition of training-related sacrifice

  • Educating communities on the long-term impacts of early discharge

Why This Matters
